Computer Vision System for Golf Training Analytics

This tool would give golfers real-time tips & actionable insights to help them play better. Both amateurs and professionals! The client wanted a solution to deliver precise feedback to users. It had to visualize shot dynamics and give users a breakdown of historical tracking.

The challenge was simple! Golf training relies on granular feedback regarding shot mechanics & ball trajectory. Your good ol’ coaching methods are based on manual video review & subjective analysis. But these analyses are inconsistent and cost you a lot of time. Our client wanted us to make them a solution that could:
- Capture and analyze in-game video data automatically
- Extract and process complex visual cues such as angles, speeds, and trajectories
- Provide real-time, personalized recommendations for shot optimization
- Offer detailed analytics and historical performance tracking

Turning Challenges into Capabilities
We implemented a vision-based system using state-of-the-art computer vision and ML tech here at CognoVerse. It captured videos from CCTV cameras (the ones mounted above a golf table), processing the footage in real time. It then translated visual data into actionable insights for the player (and their coach, too).
Key Features:
- Automatic Video Processing: The app uses high-res cameras to record each golf shot from an overhead perspective. The system detects the golf ball, golf club, & other details like table boundaries. No manual intervention, elite data capture!
- Angle and Speed Analysis: Computer vision algorithms extract key metrics. They often include shot angles, ball speed, ball spin, club angle, etc. Our AI processes such metrics on its own, giving you immediate feedback after every shot.
- Best Trajectory Recommendation: The AI engine then compares shot parameters with a database of optimal trajectories. It will recommend the best possible shot path as per your unique style and historical data.
- Real-Time Visual Feedback: You will also get visual overlays on your shot vids. The AI app highlights the actual trajectory versus the recommended path. Color-coded signs & indicators (or annotations) make it easy to spot deviations and areas for improvement.
- Comprehensive Dashboard: This shot data is logged and visualized via an interactive dashboard. You can review different trends and consistency scores with this information. That’s how you can do targeted practice and make measurable progress.
- Historical Tracking & Progress Report: The system maintains a detailed log of each player’s sessions, generating periodic reports that highlight strengths, weaknesses, and improvement milestones.
